Really?...You want to know about me? ...OK, here ya go...

SC Self Portrait

Stan P. Cox II, Photographic Portrait Artist

My whole perspective on what I do is different from other Photographers. I have studied art and the works of the great painters since I was a very young child. In fact, I've fancied myself an artist from a young age! (A brief curriculum vitae follows, if you're interested...) I still draw and paint on occasion, however when I discovered photography in Junior High School, it became my favorite medium. And People have always been my favorite subjects.

It follows naturally that I would eventually make a career of creating Family Art Treasures, which is indeed what Portraits are. I see what I do as art. Portraiture is very personal art. I love making portraits so much, and I care how you feel about the portraits I create for you so much, I absolutely Guarantee you will be Thrilled with your finished portraits! If for any reason you are not thrilled with your portraits, I will do whatever it takes so that you are thrilled with your portraits!

And I take pride in delivering the very best quality possible. There are three steps in creating portraits. The first is getting to know a little about you so I have some ideas about how to photograph you. Usually this first step is done during a pre-portrait consultation. Whenever possible, we'll do this in person in my studio or at your home. The second step is the actual making of images in camera. The third step takes place in the "post production" phase. This includes color and density adjustments, portrait enhancements, and art work. I do not simply make images in the camera and send them to a lab to "correct" and print. I am "hands on" all the way through to the finishing of your portraits with an Art Guard coating and mounting on a mount board.

You can understand then why I do not sell images on a disc for you to take home and make prints! This is my art, and I don't want some One Hour printer, or even a professional photo lab that doesn't know what I expect the portrait to look like, to get the chance to mess it up!

Paramount Photography Hawaii is the full service Photography studio developed and presided over by Stan P. Cox II, (that's me). I am a California native and self-taught artist and moved to Kauai, Hawaii in 1973. I began my art career in Santa Barbara, California illustrating a book of human anatomy in the third grade.

Early on, favorite mediums were pen & ink, charcoal, and watercolor. I experimented with these using abstract coloring and shadowing to evoke emotion. People have always been a favorite subject for me, and in High School my preferred medium became film, light and shadow. My final project, "Full Moon Rising", won top honors my Senior year, 1971.

Completing the New York Institute of Photography curriculum in 1982, I have been a full-time art photographer ever since. Primarily working as a Portrait Artist, I have been collecting images of the 'Aina' from Kauai to the Big Island for over 20 years. The landscapes here have magic you can feel! And the Cloudscapes have a quality unlike anywhere else on earth!

I absolutely love photography, and I absolutely love the Aina, (the Islands' land and people), and the Hawaiian sky. The images I capture are the ones that speak to me. I think they "speak" to everyone who sees them. And everyone should be given the chance to hear their message".

In 1993 I founded Paramount Photography Hawaii while living on the Big Island of Hawaii. Two years later Paramount was established in Honolulu, Oahu where the home Studio remains today. Paramount Photography Hawaii not only provides the finest Portrait photography in many diverse stylings, but also provides Public Relations, Commercial and Advertising photography for a wide range of discriminating clients.

About YOU...

and How I Can Make a Difference When You Commission Me to Create Your Portrait!

First, I must say that an SPC II portrait is Not for everyone. This is a good thing because I don't try to be "all things to all people". If I did I wouldn't have the time to devote to making your portraits the best they can be!

If what you want is just a quick documentary photo, or if you want a photograph that is just OK, or that's just "good enough", then I am Not the photographer for you!

No Photo Factory Here...

Unlike other studios, I only accept two portrait sessions per day. This way you aren't rushed and uncomfortable, and I can put the time and attention into creating the perfect portrait for you and your family.

Do You Care?...I Do!

I seriously want you to be Thrilled with the portraits I make for you! I care about this so much that I believe I offer the best Guarantee, well, that I've ever heard of! Here it is: You will be Thrilled, (not just satisfied), with your portraits, or I will do whatever it takes so that you are thrilled. If I cannot in any way make it so you are thrilled with your portraits, I will give you all your money back!

I've been making portraits for over 30 years now, and I know there are many things that can contribute to, or detract from a successful portrait session. So before we do any photography we'll get together and talk about all the things you'll need to know so your portraits come out perfect. And this will help everyone to be comfortable and confidant during the actual photography session. And there is NO charge for this pre-session consultation.

Where In The World...

Should your portrait be made? The Best and most meaningful location to create your perfect portrait is in your Home or yard, maybe on your new deck or lanai, or perhaps on your boat. Or at a beautiful beach or park that you enjoy with your family.

Wherever you decide to have your portrait made it should be a place that you have an attachment to or a fondness for. This adds to the specialness of your portrait.

Of course if you don't live here in Hawaii, the whole idea of having a special family portrait in Hawaii is already charged with special meaning. And in that case I can suggest some outstanding locations that will make your portrait a very special reminder of the wonderful time your family shared together in Hawaii.

How Much Extra For This Service?

Unlike other photographers, I don't charge any extra location or travel fees to go to your location anywhere on Oahu. (Outer Island travel is extra due to air fare to get there...)

You Will Look Better in Your Portraits Than You Do in Person...

Beyond the care and attention I give to pose, composition and lighting, which will present you in the most flattering way, I personally add enhancements to your portraits. These enhancements go beyond standard portrait retouch, and include art work other photographers don't even think about, much less spend the time to do.

Here Today....Faded Tomorrow...

We've all seen photographs that have yellowed and faded over time. The cheaper papers and older printers just aren't able to produce portraits that retain their brilliance over time. That's why I use only the finest, most expensive paper and canvas in creating your portrait art, and they are printed on state-of-the-art archival printers. This results in portraits that have a colorfast rating of up to 200+ years!

Then I finish all portraits with a protective art guard coating, which adds UV protection and longevity to your portraits. You can rest assured that your portraits will last for generations!

So, What's The Next Step?

The next step is a very simple and painless one. Simply pick up the phone and call me. There's no cost and no obligation to just talk with me on the phone. I'll answer any questions you may have, and I can give you an idea of what you could plan on investing for your family portraits. And most importantly, I can find out specifics from you about what's most important to you about these photographs.
